Looking astounding in their evening dresses and coats and ties, Year 10 and Year 11 had their Summer ball at Viverè Hotel in Alabang last March 26, 2010.

With the theme, Viva, Las Vegas!, this event was organized by the different committees from Year 10 headed by Angeli Patiño and Ezra Sumbillo, supervised by their form tutor, Ms. Hedy Ingalla. Their main goal was to give tribute to the senior students as they are about to graduate and leave the institution.

The party started with a red-carpet entrance of all students. The turnover ceremonies, where the senior students bestowed their responsibilies to the juniors, was followed by a non-traditional cotillion, which was choreographed by Ms. George Kusano. That modernized dance number signalled the start of the promenade. There were also a series of special numbers, both from Year 10 and Year 11. While having dinner, a tribute video for Year 11 was presented. It included the different activities that they had in the past years, their hardships and victories at IBA and their teachers’ messages as well.

There was also the most-awaited awarding ceremonies of the Prom King and Queen and Prom Prince and Princess which were given to Christian Samillano and Eva Oh of Year 11 and Dustin Calilap and Sabrina Bryan of Year 10, respectively. Minor awardees were also chosen. Dubbed as Best Dressed were Dustin Calilap and Sabrina Bryan of Year 10, Best Dancers were Christian Samillano and Angeli Patiño and the Couple of the Night was awarded to Joshua Gonzales and Angeli Patiño.

A final toast was offered by Ms Yolly Iya who challenged year 10 students to prove their worth and wished Year 11 students good years ahead of them as they enter a wider world of college and universities. Hosted by Ezra Sumbillo, Angeli Patiño, Kristin Butler, Third Ramos and CJ Bautista, the prom was generally enjoyed by all participants.

The International British Academy will be bringing the popular musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to the Insular Life Corporate Centre Auditorium in Alabang, Muntinlupa. This prestigious school in Imus, Cavite prides itself in not only providing its students with a sound grounding in the best of British educational traditions but also in exposing its students to a wide variety of cultural experiences.

The large cast of 80 students from both the Primary and Secondary schools is presently involved in rehearsing for this universally popular show. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with lyrics and music by the famed theatrical duo, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, was first performed in 1968 as a 15-minute pop cantata. Since then nearly 20,000 schools and amateur theatre groups have staged successful performances of a show that has become universal in its popularity.

It tells the story of the Biblical character Joseph’s path from the position of favourite son, then sold into slavery in Egypt and his eventual triumphant return to his family. The story is told through a series of wonderfully memorable songs sung by a narrator and the major characters in the story. What makes this musical so special and enjoyable for performers and audiences alike is the variety of music that is incorporated into the show: from the popular ballad style of Any Dream Will Do, to the Country and Western twang of One More Angel in Heave, to the calypso and faintly reggae rhythms of the Benjamin Calypso with the show climaxing with the thumping disco beat of the Joseph Megamix.

The International British Academy is very fortunate to have in its student body a large group of talented singers and dancers who will most certainly bring this show to life on the stage of the Insular Life Corporate Centre Auditorium in Alabang, Muntinlupa. The show will be staged on February 4th and 5th and promises to be an entertaining evening for the whole family.

Tickets are available at P500, P400 and P300 for the February 4th show while tickets for the February 5 which has a pre-show cocktail are at P700, P600 and P500. For reservations and tickets, kindly contact 046-4715922, 046-4715924 and 0917-8587138.
