IBA Students Reveal Spirit and Ambition during Spirit Week and Buwan ng Wika
During the last week of August the school held its traditional Spirit Week. This is a fun-filled week where each day is attributed a theme and the students and staff are encouraged to dress accordingly. This year’s themes ranged from “Future Careers”, to “Neon”, “Go Team” and culminated with traditional Filipino dress to mark the culmination of Buwan ng Wika.
It was wonderful to see the range of professional careers that our students imagined themselves to follow in the future. The happy images below show how some predicted medical careers, others were opting to be cool pilots and others were already imagining themselves in the role of corporate executives or engineers.
Even the teachers dressed for the occasion and our ICT teacher, Sir Are Jay revealed his medical ambitions!
During lunch breaks everyone would gather in the quadrangle of the school to enjoy some high-spirited competition. Although competitive, the point of the fun games was to encourage true sportsmanship and the enjoyment found in participating in some physical activity.
Some of the supporters and participants still remained in costume during the games which added to the fun spirit of the week.
The school’s Senior High School students in Year 11 also found the time in their busy academic schedule to take part in the fun and high spirits.
The images below show some of the keen participants in the games.
Of course on Neon Day the entire school was lit up with bright oranges, greens and yellows as the games continued.
The final day day of Spirit Week also served as the culminating activity of Buwan ng Wika. On this day the students and staff all wore traditional Filipino outfits and all contributed to a communal meal during the lunch hour.
Of course the traditional Filipino dishes on offer were enjoyed by all!
During Buwan ng Wika various competitions were held that celebrated the wealth of Filipino culture. The winners of these various competitions were recognised in a special assembly held the week after Spirit Week.
The success of Spirit Week 2015/2016 was in a large part due to the enthusiastic response of the students but also the hard work of the team of teachers behind the scenes who ensured that all of the panned activities went off without a hitch.Distinctly official Home Page must be one of the best student helper.
